Frostwolves second Rag kill

Well, I was worried yesterday when we made the group for Ragnaros.  We didn't have enough for 25 man so we just did one 10 man.

So the group makeup was:
Tanks - Hwired, Belinia
DPS - Sevros, Roshii, Moopie, Faithless, Ayelena
Healers - Targetme, Shnaptim, Yuda

I was worried that there wouldn't be enough DPS.  But I am pleased because they must be better than us because they one shot it!!!

So from Rag, Belinia got the Tier helm, Yuda got Ko'gun, Hammer of the Firelord, and Fish got Casque of Flame from Baleroc.  From Domo Faith got Stinger of the Flaming Scorpion from Domo, and Hwired got Tier Shoulders.

So Roshii and Moo said they were lucky because most of the meteors followed them.  And they basically pinged it back and forth at the front.  So that was good.

Faith said that if her dps wasn't good enough she would sit out after one go, but looks like they didn't need to do that!

I forgot to mention on Wednesday I got Smoldering Censer of Purity.  I actually took the ring from Shannox initially but when that staff dropped I gave the ring to the next person.

So next week, I think the group should include Caedis, and Manbull and Biship.  Let's hope that it goes alright.  I still think we need a core of people to be doing it to ensure that the kill is smooth.

Oh and that pally helm looks AWFUL on a Tauren... almost as bad as my druid one.

Leader Short Stories - Sylvanas Windrunner

A new short story on Sylvanas, how cool!  Here is the link here.

Sylvanas Windrunner: Edge of Night.

So a quick summary of the story:

Sylvanas is in Icecrown, looking at the remains of Arthas, the Lich King.  A new Lich King now sits on the throne.  And she thinks she has now found peace, she can leave her denizens and this loathful existence.  Stepping off the cliff to end her undeath, she is held in limbo by the Val'kyr, who like her, were warriors in life, and warriors in undeath.  They open her eyes to the plight of the Forsaken.  That with revenge in her heart now sated and the bitter taste of emptiness in her mouth, that the hordes of undead that she used as pawns to achieve her goal were also viewed with contempt by the living Horde.

The Val'kyr ask her to bind them to her, so they can escape the Lich King's dominion.  So she can hold the power over life and death.  So she returns to the Gilean front, Val'kyr at her side, to embrace her people, no longer her puppets or tools, but her loyal subjects.
"I was once like you, Garrosh," she answered, her voice quiet and steady, loud enough only for the warchief to hear. "Those who served me were tools. Arrows in my quiver."
The army of undead that surrounded and protected the Dark Lady was still hers, body and soul. But they were no longer arrows in her quiver, not anymore. They were a bulwark against the infinite. They were to be used wisely, and no fool orc would squander them while she still walked the world of the living.
Sylvanas had found a new purpose.  She was the true Queen of the Forsaken, and the survival and protection of the Forsaken was her new goal, now that the Lich King torment of her soul was gone.  Hellscream, however, is wary and he will be everwatching.

How many eggs do you need to get a Green Proto-Drake?

Answer: Too many!

Today I finally got my Reins of the Green Proto-Drake from my Cracked Egg from the Oracles.  I am so happy now that I don't have to buy those Mysterious Eggs anymore.

Phew!  Green is such a pretty colour!  My advice for anyone trying to do these is to start with Frenzyheart first then do Oracles.  Because I started with Oracles, tried for ages with the egg with no luck, switched to Frenzyheart to get the Frenzyheart Brew, then went back and had to get revered with Oracles again.  Ugh, time wasting!

PTR 4.3 Resto druid Wild Growth nerf

Well, it didn't take long for the druid blogosphere to get on this!  I started writing but some people beat me to it :) (Hey I was working!!!)
  • Wild Growth healing has been reduced by 20%
  • Glyph of Wild Growth now also increases the cooldown on Wild Growth by 2 seconds
So what do I think of it?

Well, my healing will take a dive now.  Not that I mind particularly, because I did think druids needed a bit of a nerf (ducks for cover from branch-slapping from other resto druids).  Though I liked sitting at the top of heal meters and charts, I did think it made it a little too easy - I like to do a bit of work on my heals!

This will make it interesting for those AOE fights that I like using it for, like Majordomo where I feel like I have to use it constantly for the scorpion phase.  Or even during seeds phase in Rag, though I think I will still be able to get 2 off.

At least they didn't say that they would increase the mana cost.  I'd hate for that to happen.  I would have to think more about it when I use it then.

Even Ghostcrawler said this:
We’re okay with Resto druids using Wild Growth frequently, but we think we allowed it to become too powerful given its ease of use. As I suggested above, this may or may not be sufficient to nerf Resto druid throughput overall. The change to the Glyph of Wild Growth has positive and negative elements. We heard from druids that they felt like they didn’t have as many major glyph choices as intended, since the Glyph of Wild Growth was such a no-brainer for raiding druids -- it increased the number of Wild Growth targets with no downside. We want major glyphs to be a decision, which usually involves them having some kind of downside. With the AE heals, we thought the downside might be that the healers may not be using their AE heals necessarily, but having seen two raid tiers of content now, we’re confident that the glyphs did not have as much of a downside. (We changed the Glyphs of Circle of Healing and Light of Dawn for similar reasons).

It wasn't that long ago when WG got a buff, and basically they're just taking that buff away.  Gosh, actually that buff might have been a year ago - how time flies!

I am interested how that will affect my healing come 4.3.  But for now, I'm going to examine logs a bit more carefully and see how much WG I'm actually doing and how much it contributes to my overall healing.

Ragnaros finally down!

Well we finally got our stacked group.  And it was a great night.

Tanks: Hwired, Belinia
Healers: Navimie, Voe, Beauti
DPS: Lushnek, Moopie, Roshii, Azadelta, Ampharos

Our first attempt... we wiped with 1% left.
So our second attempt, we got it!  However, I was dead, which was embarrassing!

And of course our first tier helm drop is Warrior/Shaman/Hunter.... which Moo passed to Voe!

Roshii got an awesome neck and Ampharos got some gloves.

So what should we did we do for the rest of the night?  We finished the 25 man Ulduar and I got one fragment from Yogg (we had a few attempts with 0 and 1 watcher up but we ended up having to do it with all 4 up since we only had 12 people).  And I even got an achievement, Drive me Crazy (25 player).  So, up to 26 shards now.  Maybe 2-3 more runs and I can complete my hammer :)

And DOH Forgot to loot my Mimiron Sigil today.

All I want from Brewfest this year...

All I want from Brewfest this year is the Brewfest dress.

I was wondering what happened to it before, did I destroy it because it was taking up bag space?  Then as I was reading Wowhead, I remembered what happened - the time that I was doing the achievements you could purchase the items and then sell them back to the vendor for a full refund, so a lot of us were doing our achievements like that.  So I would have sold it back to the vendor.

The dress is actually quite nice on a tauren female.

However, my big peeve this year is that the track has changed and it took me a while to figure out that you no longer run along the road to Razor Hill, you run towards the cave full of cultists out to the east.  And I was running on the road thinking, how crappy there is only one apple barrel here, I can't sprint like I used to!  But then I discovered that the apple barrels were through a bunch of Brewfest celebrators and brewmakers which is off road.  Ugh, think of all the tokens I could have had while I figured that out!

And I have no luck with getting a ram.  Fortunately I already have a Great Brewfest Kodo.  So here I am with my dress.

Well, thank goodness for Void Storage.  Now I can store all my useless items like this :)  This year's mug is purple.  I still kept my green one to see which one I like best.

(Picture above: Warcraft - Taverns of Azeroth by Samwise)

So why have we still not killed Rag yet?

Well, I was hoping to get this down yesterday but that didn't happen.  We ended up with 20 people turning up!  So Bel said he felt like he had to make 2 groups or Fue would have 10 angry people leaving letters in his mailbox.  So we had to split it up a little.

Which unfortunately meant that we couldn't kill Rag.  In one group adds were getting to the hammer.  In the other group just didn't have enough dps to get things down.  And we had a few grumpy people, who said they didn't get on to wipe.  However, if we can only take a certain number of people to the encounter, then would they be angry for being sat out as well?

Lindrel admitted to me himself that he couldn't hit the right mob to save his life and was a bit confused each hammer.  I guess having Malaetus there would only make it more confusing also heh heh.

Ayelena liked to frustrate me by getting hit by the wave when I was on the other side of the room and having to run over and try to heal him!  Faith's dps was not the best, but she was good with her trap popping as always.

Even though we wiped a lot I did have a few laughs during my raid.  I ended up 2 healing it with Yuda for the last few attempts so that we could get some extra DPS on the adds during the big Adds hammer phase.  Of course, we got there and Voe died and so me and Yuda paid him out for dying in the only bit he was supposed to be useful for.  Then when we got to the meteor phase I was running around and Yuda died so that I was stuck healing the tanks full time and living off mana fumes and the meteor was coming towards me and I somehow got myself stuck in the far right corner, and I could see it steamrolling towards Barkhoof... and it smacked into him and he was like "What the!!!"  Yeah oops.  I am still giggling about it a little bit.  Hey, there was fire there!  It was the first time I'd seen meteors!  I know you're supposed to hit them when they get near you but they never seemed to get near me...  Aza told me he was hitting them for me.

So 2 healing it is possible.  Now I know what Glow was talking about.  If nobody gets hit by dumb stuff it's definitely 2 healable.

Aza did impart some great advice.  We put 2 markers in the middle, one part way back and one at the front.  So we stack at the middle one first then the front one which was great for dealing with hammer and stuff.  I really liked that, except I often forget whether we had to go blue or purple next...

I was chatting to a guildie last night, who, like me, has a friend on another server downing all heroic mode FL in one night (well except Rag).  My friend asks me why we don't just stack a group.  My guildie's mate asks why don't we just gkick those who are underperforming.

Frostwolves is not that kind of guild.  We have always been a social and pleasant guild, where you can raid if you want, you can just hang if you want.  We don't force people to change specs to suit our raid needs - we do suggest though!  The only thing we don't tolerate is bad behaviour - childish, abusive, petulant spoilt child type behaviour.  We gkicked someone a few months ago who was laughing about griefing other players on his hunter (he offered to help another hunter tame a pet and then ninja'd the tame).  We have also gkicked people who abuse other players in the guild by calling them abusive names and saying how bad they are in guild channel or trade channel.  But as far as I am aware we have never gkicked anyone for being a bad player - we let them leave though on their own!

So if I had to think of a motto or a line that describes our guild, it would probably be "Leave No Man Behind."  Because we do tend to carry people, just because they are nice people or regular attenders, unfortunately to the detriment of our better players.  Though sometimes that can be annoying, I think that I have accepted it over the last few years, and it doesn't really bother me anymore.  It's just how things are done here.

Glenn Rane - Leave no man behind!!!

How are we going to run heroics?

I have been putting some thought into what is going to happen next week. Surely we are not going to persist with normal bosses now that it is all a cakewalk?

We just managed to get ourselves up to 25 people but there is no way we can do heroic with some of the people we have. Just looking at Rag was proof of that. So how will we keep our better players stimulated without upsetting the others?

I had a few ideas that I threw into officer forums:
  1. 25 man heroic on Wednesday and then 10s for the rest of the week
  2. 10 mans on Wednesday then join up for Thursday then 10s for the rest of the week
  3. Permanent 10 mans with one group doing heroic and the other a mixture of both

There are advantages to doing 25 mans. More loot. More cinders and embers. I get the opportunity to play with all my friends and guildies. I can be lazier in my healing... Well, I notice I heal a lot less in 25s.

But there is a certain intimacy with doing 10s. Less room for stuff ups. More room to move or spread out in. Less lag (it seems) and definitely less afks.

Guild achievement - Warglaives of Azzinoth

How exciting was it when we killed Illidan yesterday and we all see the orange legendary and asked Roshii "Is that the one you need?" "YES!!!!"

So, now Roshii has his legendaries AND a full Transmog set.  I took pictures of him just because they look so awesome.

OK, I admit I have no idea what this is.  It looks like T2 but it's a different colour.

T6

T12 (but lookalike helm)

So I guess Roshii won't be joining us for our BT Transmog runs anymore!  Poor Sev still hasn't got his shoulders from Bloodboil and I still don't have my Felpuppy on a stick.

Oh, one other thing that was done yesterday was an Ulduar 25 man run, and I managed to score 3 shards!  So now I'm up to 25, just 5 more to go.  And I got some achievements as well (I Choose You, Runemaster Molgeim (25 Man), Supermassive (25 Man), Getting Back to Nature (25 Man)).  Thanks to all the guildies who took me on the run (and thanks to Lushnek for logging me in to tag along for the free ride!)

Highlights of the Week from my Blogroll #10

Aka has done another fab post on World events, relating to the real life event that it is based upon (Oktoberfest).  There is a particularly nice shot of lots of beer mugs on a table that she's got!
Screenshot by Akabeko

Beru has said something that I was thinking just the other day - Firelands may have taken the challenge out of an encounter but that doesn't mean that it can take the challenge out for YOU.  Set your own challenges.  I was thinking of going DPS for Firelands (though my gear level won't let me in - LOL or perhaps my skill level!) or even trying to 1 or 2 heal an encounter just for kicks.  Just to make my life interesting.  Of course, we haven't done heroics yet (not like Beru who got to heroic Rag in 2 hours) so we are on a different page, but I guess my challenge next will be getting these heroics down.

I like seeing what other people think of tier sets.  And I really like how Vid likened it to Heimdall in Thor (since I really liked the movie!).  Which reminds me that I should add the Paladin Tier set to my other post so I can make some comments on it.  Which will now pale in comparison to anything that Vid has said!

A respec of a respec

Now I have had an abundance of mana lately so I decided to respec a little and drop Furor and Moonglow, and pick up Genesis.  And I also thought I'd also drop Living Seed and take Perseverance and Nature's Cure up from the Resto tree.

So, my mana was shit.  I had to use my innervate all the time on myself.  How embarrassing.  And I was dispelling like crazy, I can't stand seeing debuffs on people and that sucks up the mana.

So after last night's raid, I respecced again and picked up Moonglow again and got rid of Nature's Cure.  And now I only have 2 points in Genesis, and 2 points in Perseverance.

Let's see how that goes.

You still can't carry 8 people on Ragnaros after nerf

Majordomo went down easily, even with all the stuff ups, it was just a whole heap easier than normal.  You can still carry people for that.  Ragnaros however, is not something you can just turn up and do if you haven't read it or are slow off the mark still.

Interestingly, our FIRST attempt was our best attempt, as we managed to get to the second adds phase with the big fire adds up.  However, that was our only good attempt.

People were getting hit by fire from his hammer, running in too early on the bombs, or not moving out of the fire on the ground fast enough.  And we had quite a few people not killing their adds properly.  It was painful and good players got stressed and upset.  But I think that since we started on 25 man it was ok to let everyone feel the pain.  From Sunday we will have to take a stacked group for it.  If we have enough good players we may be able to take 2 groups, but one really stacked group, and one semi stacked group.

Either way we are going to kill it on Sunday.  Grrrr.

Green Fire Kitty

Did BT last weekend trying to get the Felpuppy on a stick staff (and also try to help everyone with their Transmog gear) and ended up with Skull of Gul'dan.  Az and Sev had from our recent BT runs and I remember asking them why they wanted it so badly - and the locks and Roshii were totally shocked at me.

"Navi, this is a very important warlock artefact!"
"This is a really important lore piece!"

OK OK.  All so Illidan consumed it and gained Gul'dan's powers, I was thinking that was the extent of it.  And yes, Gul'dan was a very important orc warlock, perhaps the most powerful mortal warlock ever.  I though that was why they were so keen to have it.

However, that wasn't just it!  What made it so COOL was the green fel glow you get when you activate the on use ability of the trinket, which makes you glow green for 20 seconds.

So this is what you look like when you have Fire kitty and you activate the trinket:

Cool right? Heh, I think so!  I did it during raid time just to be funny and people wondered how I went green.

Facerolling Firelands after Nerf

Wow, after the nerf, Firelands normal is crazy easy.  We had 25 people turn up, some undergeared, and some had not been to Firelands before (Gobbii is back!).  That said, we had 3 HUNTERS in the raid, which is amazing since we were on 0 raiding hunters before, and we only had 1 mage in the raid.  The trash is the same and people were being stupid and just not assisting and just doing whatever because they thought it was nerfed.  But there were some ridiculously easy fights.

Shannox was ok, we actually wiped on it because it was accidentally pulled.  And then Beth'tilac wasn't that smooth because I sent Targetme up top when he hadn't done it before and he just said he had never been up there before but didn't ask me what he needed to do.  So of course that went dreadfully, but we still did it.  Rhyolith was a walk in the park, and Alysrazor was just a joke.  People died in the cyclone phase because now the cyclones are too slow and you run into them as you run behind them if you have feathers.  Hilarious.  And the druids went splat - and they hardly cast Fieroblast anymore.  And Baleroc was also dead easy, you could almost just 4 heal it I reckon.  Ampharos soaked the first crystal and Shnaptim was up to 80 stacks by the end of the first crystal.

So after that we went to Domo but we didn't have much time and we wiped because people didn't run in fast enough and a fire pool went in the middle.  We didn't really try though and we were on our last few minutes of raid time anyway.  Besides, we have to leave something for tomorrow.

Patch 4.3 Notes from MMO-Champion

4.3 looks so exciting! New instances, new raid, interesting stories going back in time... I think I have to make some sort of comment or I'll explode!

New 5 man dungeons

All of them in COT? Well, COT is going to be one busy place come 4.3. I am looking forward to seeing these dungeons - it's funny you know, people have said they have done Zandoms 50+ times for each one to cap their Valor points (ugh writing valor instead of valour still annoys me!!!) and lazy me has hardly done any Zandoms because I hate pugging. I have done 6 ZAs and 7 ZGs. Which explains why I still haven't got a Bear achievment... because I am lazy. I should go back and do those Troll dungeon achievements at some point.

But back to the new 5 mans...
End Time:  Nozdormu shows you the future if Deathwing wins
So I may be fighting an angry Sylvanas??  Aww, how am I going to attack or support an attack on my heroine?  I don't mind fighting Tyrande, though she is another pretty cool character.  That wimpy picture that everyone is whinging about doesn't do her much justice (I agree she looks rather subservient and dependent on Malfurion but maybe all females have to have their "Oh baby I need you, hold me" moment).  I think this is picture from Raneman is a great depiction of the Trinity of Tyrande, Malfurion and Illidan.
Oops but I am digressing again.  Back to the instance discussion.  I noticed Baine Bloodhoof is the only tortured male ghost walking around in End Time.  Well I bet his anger and frustration stems from the fact he's stuck for all eternity as a ghost with Sylvanas, Tyrande and Jaina and he won't get any booty since ghostly forms can't participate in mortal pleasures....
Sylvanas in End time - coz you can never have too many pictures of Sylvanas
Well of Eternity: Journey to the past and witness the War of Ancients
I am looking forward to seeing Queen Azshara and tell her I dug up her Dressing Gown!  I love all this old lore stuff.  And we will get to fight Mannoroth as well (though I will be disappointed if he just looks like Magtheridion - hoping for a slightly different colour).  Let's hope that there will be some nice looking loot that I can wear for looks from the deadly beautiful Queen (who is supposedly the greatest mortal mage in existence)
Nozdormu in Well of Eternity - why do all dragons take Night Elf human forms?
Hour of Twilight : Present day - get Thrall to Wyrmrest for the final Deathwing battle
So we're going to escort Thrall to Wyrmrest with the Dragon Soul and kill all the baddies in our way.  Yeah!!!  I like these escort quests where you go with a hero - there seem to be more Horde heroes than Alliance ones (Thrall in Escape from Durnholde, Sylvanas in Halls of Reflection, Arthas in Culling of Stratholme being the only semi Alliance one I can think of).
I think Thrall is hot.  I am totally en-Thralled.
New Raid Instance - Dragon Soul

Well, I wonder how far we are going to get here.  It will likely take us AGES to get anywhere.  But it will be fun to try something new.  At every patch we used to get a whole bunch of people suddenly playing again, and our raids would suddenly be full...... though there may not be that many this time because not that many appeared last patch, much to my disappointment.

New Gear

Well I've already made my comments on Tier 13 Druid gear.  But now you can't buy Tier with Valor points, so looks like everyone will have to raid.  You know sometimes it used to annoy me that people who didn't raid but just ran dungeons every day would initially have much better gear than me because they ran their dungeons and capped their Valor points - as mentioned before I am inherently lazy and hate doing daily dungeons.  Wonder if I will feel better now with this change.  Probably they will just have nice gloves/pants/chests like they used to have which are comparable to Tier.

Shaman tier shoulders look nice I think!  I actually like the set overall, but I wonder what other shamans think.

Personally I like black Rogue Tier best, but at least this helm isn't hideous... and are the hands uncovered so they can pickpocket better or what?  That bit seems odd.  I'm a bit meh about the rogue Tier.

Now I think the helm is great on the Warlock tier with that creepy faceless look (great so we don't have to look at their ugly mugs), but I'm not sure about the Rainbow Brite colours.  I think Fel colours or red/purple look better for warlocks.  I actually think it looks a bit girly - wondering what the male warlocks will be looking like in these pansy colours

And this is my view on Mage Tier.  I hope we have some nice cold cave to raid in so they can wear their padded winter wedding/princely coat with the built in torch and see-in-the-dark goggles.  Nuff said.

Well, at least Warriors are fully covered.  Not an ounce of flesh showing anywhere.  And they've even got a belt that looks like a giant nappy/groin protector.  It does have a Decontamination Unit feel to it though, or maybe a beekeeper.  And the helm looks kind of like Deathwing to me.

I noticed there will be lower level LFRaid queues which is pretty good for those casual raiders, I am wondering if it will be worth doing those to get the practice for the real raid.  It's on a different lockout to the Normal and Heroic raid, and the gear level is a bit lower too.  I think that would appeal to those casual players.

And about that new legendary...
From Ghostcrawler (on How did the team decide to make a Rogue weapon rather than a tanking weapon for this legendary?)
"... We thought that Rogues had maybe felt a little bit not special in this expansion with all the high damage numbers that were being done by classes like Mages. We thought it was just the right opportunity to make them shine and feel kind of special...."
Tell that to Roshii... as if he doesn't do enough DPS already.  At least we only have 2 rogues, and it will be pretty obvious who is going to get that legendary.  No offence to Malaetus of course, but anyone who runs into Rag's hammer 4 times in one night is legendary in other ways.... maybe not in a good way, but legendary all the same :P  But hey, that's another story for another post!
Epic gems will drop in the new raid in Normal and Heroic only. Each player gets a geode when a boss is killed which has a small chance to contain an epic gem, most will have rare gems. It is rare enough to take all of 4.3 to replace all of your red rare quality gems with red epic gems.
Well, I am not going to gem any of my stuff unless I am POSITIVE I am not changing it for a while.  You know this will probably just mean that people are going to be on their alts all the time doing raids to help boost their chances of getting more epic gems.  I have to say... BUMMER to Nok, Fue and Belinia for hoarding 120 stacks of pyrite thinking that Epic gems were going to be prospected...

New Class changes
Melee classes will be getting a buff that is only active in the new raid to help them compete with ranged classes.
Well that will make Moopie and Roshii happy.  I've noticed that Moo isn't up there in DPS like he used to be.  And I often hear them crying about the lack of melee buffs in raid.

Other New Stuff
"Quite a few" new profession recipes will be added.
I wonder if I'll get new enchanting stuff.  I doubt it.  Probably more crafted gear recipes and JC recipes obviously for the new gems.

And there is only one new mount I can see - and that's from killing Deathwing.  Where's the vanity pet love?  Hehehe.

Well that's my thoughts on Patch 4.3.  Would love to hear your thoughts!

Resto druid Tier 12 gloves vs Boomkin Tier 12 gloves

I have been waiting for Cindersilk gloves to drop off Beth'tilac but no luck.  And I wouldn't waste Living Embers on making Heavenly Gloves of the Moon since I already have the boots.  And I really don't like the Tier 12 Resto gloves (Obsidian Arborweave Handwraps) - I mean look at them, no spirit, with crit on them!  The mastery is ok though.  And I already have 2 piece T12.

So I had been seriously considering getting the Boomkin T12 (Obsidian Arborweave Gloves).  Great stats!  Spirit and haste!

So since I had Valor points to burn (enough to buy both gloves) I decided to buy the Boomkin gloves.  And I thought if I had even more Valor points to burn, I could wear 2 piece Boomkin T12 and see if that treant appears.... that would be hilarious.

Now don't get me wrong - if I get shoulders or a helm I will buy my gloves!  And wear 4 piece.  But now I have  a nice buttload of haste and enough reforged to mastery so I am almost at 20%.

I'll probably get smashed by other druids for being so crappy and needing the haste (well, not need, but it is nice to have it!) so I will see how I go with these boomkin gloves for a while (bet next week the Beth'tilac gloves drop!).

Vyragosa at last!!!

I left my computer on while I was cooking to camp Vyragosa and I came back to my keyboard at 1400 just to check stuff and I saw a blue dragon flying towards me... my hands started shaking...

Now, my NPCscan didn't go off, nor did my Silverdragon until much later, so I think I forgot to clear my cache again.  LUCKY!  Because I may not have heard it go off if that was the case.

So I flew into her and then to the ground.  And tried to compose a shot.  Couldn't get a decent one though :(  And in the excitement I also forgot to take a screenie of my Frostbitten achievement.  But here's proof.

When I tagged, her I had tears in my eyes.  I was so happy.  And so excited.  No tears fell though.  However, it could also have been the fact that I was cooking just prior to sitting at the computer and I had been chopping onions...

So at long last (well it's only been 1 month), Vyragosa rest in peace.  I will be leaving you alone from now on.
Look it's shiny for ME!!!!  My kill!

Highlights of the week from my Blogroll #9

OMG an absolutely hilarious post.  And one you can do at home too :)  Number 1 post of the week!  And if you think that's good you have to look at her Ragnaros finger puppet!

Vid made a really good post about the nerfs, and probably touched upon why deep down I didn't really like them - maybe why a lot of people didn't like them.  She said that she felt like a failure when people would twitter or post about their kills and she hadn't got them down yet.  I read a lot of blogs, and most of them are about heroic content and not aimed at the level of raiding that I am at.  Vid is the GL of a heroic guild, and she felt like Blizz was saying this to her:

“These nerfs are for you, because you haven’t downed the content in the allotted time frame. You are the intended audience and you need them.”

But she realised that she should embrace the nerfs, it will help her guild gear up for the next tier when it comes.  So it's not all bad.  So she has accepted the nerfs - and looked at the positives.  So many guilds have collapsed, disbanded during this Tier.  But her guild remains, and they are still raiding.  Which is how I should look at it too.  Our guild is still here, and we are raiding and we will continue to.  These nerfs may help our not so great members gear up, and hopefully get them ready for the next tier.

It's funny you know, reading stuff like this.  Repgrind's is not the first blog post I have read talking about doing things like Baleroc with 6 dps (ie one tank or two heals) because of hitting the enrage timer.  Because, today is the first time I have NOT thought "hmm, they must have lousy DPS", and instead, have thought "hmm. we must have SHIT healers".   Because we don't have that issue on Baleroc, we have the issue with communication and swapping and bloody DPS dying (ie a healing problem!).  So when I think hard about it, am I tolerating substandard healers (well, yes, but that's a side note)?  Because there are a lot of guilds out there 2 healing stuff and we continue to 3 heal stuff... and our DPS can get them down regardless (Rhyolith is another that comes to mind - we would do 2 tanks, 3 heals as well).

And now I'm almost afraid to type this... the thing holding our guild back is our healers? Because DPS must be doing ok if they're getting the stuff down.  So should I be challenging my healers more with 2 healing stuff? Such as Shannox, Rhyolith, Baleroc???  I really don't know... I think I am more stunned sitting here still thinking that healers are the weak link of this guild.  That it's the healers we are carrying.  Not the DPS, not the tanks.  US!!!  My god, I'm having an epiphany.

Warlocks progress in their "Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest" questline - Chapter 2

Last week both locks started doing Delegation (Step 7), picking up all these bits from each of the bosses.  Once they had all their bits they went to the portal near Beth'tilac to use them, and start fighting Volcanus.

So here is a quick overview of the speical boss fight from Sev.
  • 4 Harbingers of flame to start - we just needed to keep them interrupted until they died.  A missed interrupt caused an AOE fire attack (like the fire mages in Zul'Aman)
  • Next stage - tormented protector - giant guardian tree.  Pretty much a standard tank'n kill fight, but he'll periodically root the raid, then do a stomp.  if the healers dispel the roots before he stomps the raid goes flying over the edge of the zone.
  • Final stage, Volcanus - I got turned into a giant tree with 95% damage reduction in the previous phase and Volcanus focussed on me, so no real risks.  Just dps'd him down quickly before his AOE could wipe the rest of the raid.  Then loot the branch!
Picture courtesy of Belinia - great shot Bel!
So once they have the branch, they can activate it and gain the title Blessed Defender of Nordrassil, as well as get a buff where they sprout flowers on the ground.  Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it!!  I didnt' realise it would go away and never come back.
Here is Sev completing Nordrassil's Bough (step 8).  The staff is spawning here I  believe.

In Emergency Extraction (Step 9), you escort Kalecgos to Coldarra where he is ambushed by Twilight dragonspawn.  Tarecgosa flies in to his rescue but is mortally wounded in the process.

In At One (Step 10), Kalecgos asks Sev if he can bond Tarecgosa's essence with Sev, so he may be the only mortal bound with a dragon (well he and every other person on the quest!).

Now at Time Grows Short (Step 11), Sev and Aza must collect 1000 Seething Cinders so they can attend the Dragon council and choose Malygos' successor.  That will take about 8 weeks of raiding....

Racing to Ragnaros before the Nerf!

Master Roshi (Dragonball Z)
We had 2 10 mans going this week, and last night everyone had killed Staghelm, which was great!  It was a close call with the other group, they had 1 man left standing with 60k left to go on Staghelm and they managed to get it down!  Aza called it a great Lacrox moment.  Can you guess who it was?  Nooo... it wasn't a bubbled pally, it was Roshii!  All hail Master Roshii!  If only somebody had FRAPSed that, would have been great on a guild video.  Lushnek had lousy dps in our raid again (for Ragnaros) and he AGAIN had his skinning knife equipped... he's picking up my bad habits!  I have no idea how we managed to get all the adds down with him in gimp gear and 2 dps dead (one attempt) but I guess that will go well for a proper attempt.

Grats Roshii and Belinia on Tier shoulders!  It was nice to see something other than Warrior/Shaman/Hunter Tier for a change.

So this means we have 2 10 mans with 2 full days on Ragnaros.  I hope we can get it down before the nerf because I don't want it to be easy just because it was nerfed (see later in this post)

So what do we do for the next 2 nights?  Do we stack a group full of people who know the fights?  Or do we continue as is?  I would recommend a stacked group, though really everyone has kinda had a look already, I think.  Looking at my group, which had Belinia/Hwired tanking, me/Shnaptim/Targetme healing, and Lushnek/Sevros/Moopie/Caedis/Malaetus dpsing.  The other group had Fueghan/Barkhoof tanking, Beauti/Voe/Ea healing, and Azadelta/Longbowflexo/Faithless/Lindrel/Roshii dpsing.

So if I wanted to change my group, I would probably have Voe healing (though Target did ok), Ampharos swapped for Caedis, and Roshii swapped with Malaetus.  We will see how it pans out on Sunday.

What nerf am I talking about?  I hear you ask.  Well, it was revealed on September 12 on WoWblog:

With the final showdown against Deathwing approaching, we’ve been keeping a close eye on players’ progress through the current Firelands raid content. Before patch 4.3 is released, we want groups who are working on Heroic-difficulty content to be able to get as close to Ragnaros as possible, and we want players who are tackling normal progression to be able to experience as many of the encounters as they can. To achieve these goals, we’ll be toning down the difficulty of both normal and Heroic raids through hotfixes in the coming weeks. In general, we plan to reduce health and damage of all raid bosses in both normal and Heroic Firelands by around the same percentage we brought difficulty down for the original Cataclysm raids when Rage of the Firelands (patch 4.2) was released.
We’re looking forward to seeing more groups of players face off against the firelord in the weeks ahead. However, before we make these changes, we want to give everyone a final shot at the bosses at their current difficulty level — so this is a heads up that we’re planning to apply the difficulty hotfixes beginning the week of September 19.
So they are nerfing all of Firelands before they release the next patch.  Which is a bit odd, and a bit annoying really.  I wish they would do it in stages like they did with ICC, or do it after the next tier is out, like they did with BWD/BoT.  I actually ENJOY the challenge (obviously with like minded people) - it makes conquering it that much more satisfying.

But on the upside we will be able to do 25s easier (ie carry people) and the locks may be able to get their cinders faster because we will kill more bosses.  Not  sure if that is what everyone wants to do.  But whatever it is, I guess we'll be doing it together :)

NPCs in WoW - Famous people

This post is part of my Celebrities and Personalities as NPCs in WoW series.

Oprah Winfrey - media proprieter, business woman and now retired talk show host was been described as the most influential and powerful woman in the world (CNN and Time), the most influential black person of her generation (Life), and most powerful celebrity for 4 years (Forbes).

Paris Hilton, American heiress (great granddaughter of Conrad Hilton of the Hilton chain hotels), socialite and businesswoman, and Tinkerbell, named after her Chihuahua accessory dog.  Oh, but this is fantastic, if you have The Eye of Divinity (which is now no longer available in game since Cata) and you equip it next to her, you can see Ricole Nichie (Nicole Richie - daughter of Lionel Richie, and best friend of Paris Hilton).

Fabian Lanzonelli is very likely named after Fabio Lanzoni, the Italian model with the flowing locks, often featured on the covers of romance novels dressed low cut shirts like this NPC is.

(Interestingly, the above 3 famous people all sell bags in game...)

Named for Amelia Earhart, the famed American airwoman, who disappeared over the central Pacific ocean.

Though his stature doesn't befit the name, The Rokk is probably a reference to the wrestler (and now actor) the Rock, Dwayne Johnson, who often said "Do you smell what the Rock is cookin'?!"  He does have a kitchen assistant, Gargoth, who does fit The Rock's physical appearance....

Harrison Jones is a combination of Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones, and is an archaeologist much like IJ.  And good looking to boot.  Here he is looking hot and swish.
Here is Harrison Jones in his adventure outfit.  Still sexy!

Clarice Foster is a combination of Jodie Foster/Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs.

Druid Tier 13 previews from MMO Champion

I think quite a few people have been talking about the druid Tier 13 looking quite nice, and I have to say I think it is quite a nice looking set compared to some of the previous ones.  Here it is here:

From Blizzard:
The design called for "phosphorescent mushrooms, reminiscent of Zangarmarsh," so our main concern was avoiding making a helm that looked like a giant toadstool sombrero. We’re always looking to incorporate interesting light sources within a raid set, and bioluminescent vegetable growth certainly provides that. Twisting, organic shapes are often key elements of a druid set, and this tier is no exception, with writhing plant roots providing a frame for the glowing clusters of fungi.

Well, I think it looks great, but I only have one beef (pun intended!) - EVERYTHING looks good on a female Night Elf!!!  I wonder how it would look on a Tauren female.

So I do like the glowing mushrooms.  I also like how the shoulders won't take out the eye of the person standing next to you.  And the helm looks more leather like now instead of... bark.  I often say that the T12 helm looks like I ran into a tree, got my head stuck and then wrenched my head and part of the tree out.

So what do you guys think?

Fandral's Flamescythe Resto Fire kitty!!!

OK I just have to post a pic because this is just too awesome.  Killed Staghelm yesterday and no feral druids in raid or hunters so I saved this baby Fandral's Flamescythe from DE.  I'm keeping it just for looks.

I even had a few comments!  Though a few people were wondering why I was resto spec with that staff... hahaha I did say that it is too awesome to be DE'd.

I tell you what though, it makes it easy for people to find me, especially trade channel people, for enchants and stuff ("I'm in Valley of Wisdom - look for the fire kitty").

Though... I've had a few dirty comments because I keep asking people to look at my fire kitty... filthy animals!

Warlocks progress in their "Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest" questline

In our 25 man last Wednesday, BOTH warlocks finished their Ember collections for the All-Seeing Eye, step 3 of the 14 step quest chain for the legendary Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest.  I was listening to them whinging and complaining while they were doing the Through a Glass, Darkly (step 5).

Here is what Aza had to say:

...You have to kill a whole bunch of evil adds which kick the shit out of you and silence you and then you have to jump across platforms and kite things which hit you for 60k...
... you get stuck in combat so you can't heal or regen health...
... so I got to the boss before Sev, and I got stomped for 2 hours trying to kill it.  And then Sev killed it on his first attempt... /buffing his nails
... Navi, it was soooo annoying

Here's what Sev had to say:

In Nexus, I had to go thru Nexus to use the eye we'd forged at the centre.  Mobs inside were designed to irritate the hell out of casters.  Heavy sentinels dropping frost patches which kept us moving constantly.  And a few mobs that had to be constantly interrupted to prevent them doing massive damage.   Main problem for Az was the final boss.  It had a self heal, dropped flame on the ground like Atra, summoned adds, very nasty.  I didn't have too many problems because my felpuppy could dispel the worst of the magic, but Az was furious :P.  I had more trouble with the mobs on the way.  There was one pack of ice wraiths that endlessly respawned, needed AOE to kill them and seed was useless :(.  Got them eventually using shadowflame though.

So...

Sounds like Aff is the way to go for the final bit and Demo for the adds?  Just an interesting perspective from 2 excellent warlocks in 2 different specs.

Farewell Noble Xynzelle

Stop! Think about what you're doing.  Is arcane magic really right for you?

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to Xyn.  He has decided that he's going to stop playing WoW because he hasn't been enjoying the game lately.  A combination of frustrating raid nights plus sub par players just ruined his raiding experience, and I could see the disappointment building over some weeks now.

Facts: Magic is a dangerous force that leads to the deaths of millions each year.

I know that Xyn would have gotten more enjoyment out of the game (and us more time out of him too) if we had organised our raiding a bit differently.  I think we raid very fairly, we do our best to teach new people and we rotate good players to sit out for some not so good players.  However, not everyone agrees with this approach.
People who put their 100% in can often feel upset and angry someone who doesn't put the same effort in comes to raid.  We do have a few people in the guild who put a great effort into raiding, bringing flasks/food etc to raid so everyone can benefit.  And I know Xyn put in 100%, he was our cauldron bitch.  None of the other alchemists make cauldrons...

Facts: Arcane magic is highly addictive.  Once you start practising magic, it's almost impossible to stop.
The Dangers of Magic Abuse, page 2

There are a few people who think that perhaps he made his decision hastily.  However, I know Xyn and it was not made in haste.  If he had a lousy day raiding, he would be cranky and he would need some wind down time before he could go to bed and Mrs Xyn didn't like angry Mr Xyn coming to bed.  Which is fair enough, right?  Also, Xyn knows how susceptible he is to the addictive component of the game - you can't just wind down your playing, you have to stop.  I know this because I am extremely susceptible to those addictive components - achievements, time wasting screenshotting etc.  So that is also why he has decided he has to stop.  And then he can get back into his real life stuff again.

I wonder would he have been happier had he been in another guild, a stricter one, one that played to the best of their ability?  Maybe, from a raiding perspective.  I'm not sure what kind of friendships he would have had in that sort of guild, but here in Frostwolves he had a lot of friends, and a lot of respect (and a lot of teasing as well) and though he may feel that he may have had the same experience if not better, somewhere else, but I'm glad he came here because I enjoyed his company, his counsel and his friendship for the time he played WoW, and he certainly enriched my gaming experience.

Our mission is to show the world that it's okay to live without magic. You can find fun elsewhere, like with flowers or basketweaving. Doesn't that sound exciting?

Of course there is always emails and things where you can keep in touch, but for someone who wants to forget the game, is it wise to be contacting them?  From my point of view, I try not to talk about WoW for those who are trying to stop playing, so fortunately I have the children thing that I can chat to him about if I feel the urge to communicate.

So dear Mr Xyn, farewell!  Pursue those noble pursuits!  If you decide to return, you know where to find us.  Well, me anyway.  I don't think I am giving up any time soon.  I'm still embracing my addiction.

Contemporary Azeroth is full of unique challenges that make it very difficult to maintain a safe and magic-free lifestyle. We're here to help you find that safe, comfortable path. Dozens of people have already benefited from our lifestyle enriching magic-alternatives. Won't you be the next?

No more wasting cloth... I'm Prepared for Disaster

I got my Preparing for Disaster achievement on Sunday.  I am relieved actually.  That's 1500 cloth wasted doing that achievement - thank goodness I'm a tailor and I seem to get about 60 cloth from every instance I run.  Though it did make me mildly amused to see Az crying every time I was making bandages...

"Navi... stop wasting cloth! Noooooooo...."

Now I didn't know this but apparently making Field Bandage: Dense Embersilk also counts towards the achievement.  Not sure if that would make it any easier though in terms of the amount of Embersilk since that's binding 2 heavy embersilk bandages together...

Sigh.  Only one more professions achievement to go.  You bloody ratbag Sea turtle.

It isn't a Frostwolves Raid unless...

We often laugh at each other in raids at the silly things we do or say.  And each or our regular raid members seems to have a little thing that they do that makes them that much more special :D

Fueghan - Our guild leader has ALWAYS had a left and right problem.  Like "Everyone go left" and he runs to the right... "Oh damn, I meant right".  There was one funny Left/Right moment last night - Fue said "We'll pull the left ones," meaning we'll pull the left most pack of the 2 scorpion packs, who were both on the right.  And poor Aza (I think) ran off to the left and pulled something... and died, because all the tanks were on the right, pulling the left pack of scorpions.  Confused?  Yeah, fortunately that stuff doesn't matter to me, I just heal :)  But that wasn't the worst of it.  Rhyolith was... terrible and hilarious.  Fue has now been banned from driving Rhyolith.  Period.
Fue has now extended his Left/Right dyslexia into time.  "Don't worry, we can try again and kill it last week."  I think he meant next week..

Hwired -  Our DK tank always made us laugh with his arachnid dyslexia.  He keeps calling scorpions spiders.  So we rib him almost every raid or trash pull.  Poor Hwired.  I guess I can KINDA see why he'd be confused... they do both have 8 legs.

Faithless - Oh our dear Faith, more deaths to elevator bosses and Frogger than any other raid boss... how did Roshii put it?  She dies to environmental bosses more than real bosses.  Personally I think it's just lag.  Some people thought she was doing it on purpose.  Anyway, we found ways around it for Faith.  She would be summoned down in BWD, or she would put someone on follow and they would take her down. Where there's an (Inner) Will there's a Way.

Belinia - Now this is the problem with being Holy/Prot.  You get asked to switch from one to the other so frequently during a raid that it is inevitable that you forget to do something for that spec.... like MAYBE forget to turn on Righteous Fury when tanking after you had to go heal Aza while he kills a loot worm... or MAYBE forget to put on your tank gear when tanking Occu'thar and tanking in your holy gear (well, he lived!  A testament to his skill, or our healing :D)

Navimie - OK, I can't do this without including myself.  I sometimes forget to check my gear and raid with either my Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, Loop of the Kirin Tor, Blessed Medallion of Karabor or PVP gear on.   And you can also tell the success of a raid is inversely proportional to the number of swear words that come out in Vent.  If someone is about to die, or I do something bad, the s*@# and f!#@ come out, so I think most raiders realise that if I'm swearing, somebody who is probably important is about to die (eg a tank, a gong hitter, a kiter, a healer) or has died.

Liteofdawn - she doesn't raid with us anymore (she left the guild) but a typo from her has resulted in me permanently referring to Beacon of light as "Bacon". I"m just glad now that all my pallies work out their bacons between themselves.

Pic from Warcraft Hunters Union Demotivational Contest
Lushnek/Huntinhk - He had an extremely memorable moment when we were doing Lich King where he disengaged off the platform... we were laughing our asses off for weeks.  No wonder he switched from Hunter to Boomkin.

Azadelta - You can always count on Az for 2 things - great dps, and dying.  Aza is our suicide bomber.  He loves to pull, and tank, and die.  Not sure if it would be a raid if he didn't die, or try to.  Healer lesson - either heal him so he lives or you're the next to die.

Sevros - Our frustrated closet 70s-80s DJ, Sev often plays music when he's bored waiting for something to happen during raid.  Drives Fue crazy though!  Well, at least he does play things on request.  I don't know why people don't like his Beach Boys repertoire....

Moopie - You can tell when Moo is in a good mood.  He will talk about his balls or about the length of his inseminator.  And unless you want to put him in a bad mood, don't call him Moo-pee, it's Moo-Pie (as in cherry pie).  And you know he's in a bad mood when he says, "What the F*** man...."

Biship - Now you'd think someone who worked for Telstra would have a half decent internet connection... and why doesn't he talk on Vent??  All that goddamn porn he's watching while raiding...

Roshii - I think deep down he has some insecurity about his appearance /nod.  He never seems to look like himself.  He's perpetually eating Deviate Delights.  Or using the trinket that makes you look like a Blood Elf.

Xynzelle - Noble Xyn, is the epitome of politeness "Thank you Sir,/Ma'am".  I'm sure we all wish we could be as noble as Xyn.  And he's the only one who makes cauldrons... I've decided it's because he's secretly a pot stirrer.

And of course, who doesn't love my healing assignment instructions?

Beth'tilac - "Who wants to be on top?  Oh come on Belinia, you love doing Hwired on top."
Kologarn - "OK all the girls on hand job, the boys can do tanks."
